God of War 2005 (Serie Principal)
The original game started in 2005 for PlayStation 2 and is the third story within the timeline. The God of Wars story does not follow the order of the release date.
In early Greece, Kratos served as a Spartan warrior for the Food Olympics. The goddess Athena guidelines the protagonist to kill Ares, Kratos’ former mentor. He begins the task willingly, as Ares tricked him into murdering his own family.
Kratos must search for the only item that could stop the box from achieving the goal. The aim is to find Pandora’s Box before Ares destroys Athens out of hatred.
The gameplay focuses on 3D combo-based directional combat. The combos come through the players’ primary weapons, the Blades of Chaos. Later, there’s a secondary weapon, plus power-ups and magic attacks. Lastly, the title has quick-time events during the cinematic sequences
God of War II 2007 (Serie Principal)
The second entry debuted for the PlayStation 2 in 2007. However, it is not a straight sequel to the main game as it is the sixth entry chronologically.
Still, the setting and gameplay are similar. You play as Kratos in ancient Greece. Ares is dead, and now Zeus, the god of gods, takes his godhood away from Kratos and sends him to the underworld.
In the underworld, the Titan Gaia saves Kratos and also shows him the way to salvation. He must find the Sisters of Destiny, ask them to send him back in time, and get revenge on Zeus.
The gameplay doesn’t change much from the previous entry. The primary weapon is the Blades of Athena, and there are now various secondary weapons throughout the story. There are also four magic attacks and skill upgrades. Apart from combat, the game adds platforming elements, puzzles, and many more bosses.
God of War: Betrayal 2007 (Serie Principal)
Betrayal was an action-adventure mobile game developed by Javaground, and it debuted in 2007 for Java ME compatible phones. As the god of war, Kratos is tasked with slaying the primordial giant Argos, and also he searches for the real killers, an Olympian messenger.
Betrayal is a 2D side-scrolling game. Still, Kratos has similar combo-based gameplay, and there are puzzle and platforming segments.
God of War: Ascension 2013 (Serie Principal)
Ascension debuted on PlayStation 3 in 2013. It’s a prequel to the entire series, so the events predate Chains of Olympus.
The action takes place right after Kratos kills his wife and daughter. In response to Ares’ deception, the Spartan demigod renounces Ares. The God of War responds by torturing Kratos. The protagonist must therefore flee, confront his guardians and free himself from Ares.
The gameplay evolves from previous entries. Chaos Blades are Kratos’ primary weapons, and there are magic attacks, power-ups, puzzles, and platforming. The system has been created through new game mechanics, movements, skills, and performances. Additionally, the game adds a no-prompt system to its quick events.
God of War: Mimir’s Vision 2018 (Spin-Off)
